Acoustic Emissions

The measurement of the acoustic noise emitted from a specimen, either though a mechanical structure or air.
Airborne Noise
The basic unit of measurement for airborne noise is sound power. Sound pressure measurements are frequently recorded and the sound power calculated from the measurements.
Airborne sound is typically measured in accordance with MIL-STD-740-1
Structureborne Noise
The basic method for the measurement of structureborne noise is the measurement of the vibrational acceleration induced by equipment. Typically the equipment is resiliently mounted and tri-axial measurements are made at each of the mounting points.
Structureborne sound is typically measured in accordance with MIL-STD-740-2
