Testing Disciplines
Acoustic Emissions
The measurement of the acoustic noise emitted from a specimen, either though a mechanical structure or air. |
Airborne Noise |
The basic unit of measurement for airborne noise is sound power. Sound pressure measurements are frequently recorded and the sound power calculated from the measurements. |
Airborne sound is typically measured in accordance with MIL-STD-740-1 |
Structureborne Noise |
The basic method for the measurement of Structureborne noise is the measurement of the vibrational acceleration induced by equipment. Typically the equipment is resiliently mounted and tri-axial measurements are made at each of the mounting points. |
Structureborne sound is typically measured in accordance with MIL-STD-740-2 |
